Event Description

Martin Luther King, Jr. Programs at OSV

Learn more about New England's civil rights legacy as our costumed historians portray important 19th-century abolitionist leaders. Tammy Denease Richardson will portray Elizabeth “Mum Bett” Freeman and share the story of how this one-time slave won her freedom in court in 1781. Costumed interpreters will also portray Abby Kelley, a 19th-century abolitionist and women’s rights activist, and William Lloyd Garrison, one of the founders of the American Anti-Slavery Society.
