Event Description

Losing Through Negative Planning: A How-to (Not)

WHAT: CBA speaker Martinus Evans

WHERE: Oliver Wight Tavern, Old Sturbridge Village

WHEN: 7:15 a.m., August 28, 2015

Martinus Evans was a loser before he converted, and he’ll share his how-to (not) hints at the August 28 meeting of Community Business Associates, the business networking and referrals program of the Central Mass South Chamber of Commerce.

Since going positive, Mr. Evans “goes negative” only to make a point as an educator, coach, and consultant: “Learn to Win from a Loser.”

A native of Detroit, he lived next to a crack house and witnessed shootouts, drug deals and murders from his bedroom window, lost an athletic scholarship, failed out of college, and weighed nearly 400 pounds. He relates how he shed more than just weight to run a marathon and earn a graduate degree. He relocated to Sturbridge to complete that degree at the University of Connecticut.

Now he employs some humor as he motivates people in business and others by stressing steps to overcome challenges through, for example, self-care, creating a routine, “laser focus” and “thriving after hitting the wall.”

CBA meeting speakers present helpful information for business and professional members and guests, along with networking opportunities and useful news updates. Visitors are welcome at no charge. Meetings conclude by 8:30 a.m.
