Get a live “Update from the Dome” when State Rep. Todd Smola briefs Community Business Associates on issues that matter to businesses and the area economy.
The 1st Hampden District lawmaker will be guest speaker at the business networking group’s Oct. 25 morning meeting at Old Sturbridge Village.
Rep. Smola last appeared before the CBA when casino gambling was newly proposed, and he reconnects with the group as full-service casino proposal compete for final approval, including one in nearby Palmer. He’ll also cover timely topics of interest including minimum wage hike proposals, paid sick leave legislation the repeal of a tech services tax.
Rep. Smola’s district includes the towns of Brimfield, Holland, Palmer, Sturbridge, Wales, Ware and Warren. He began his elected career as a member of the Palmer Planning Board in 1997 and then moved on to the Palmer Board of Selectmen in 2000. He served as the chief legislative aide to former State Rep. Reed Hillman before being elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 2005.
Rep. Smola has served as a member of the Committee on Ways and Means, the Committee on Veterans and the Joint Committee on Telecommunications. He is currently a member of the minority leadership team serving as the ranking member of the House Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditure and State Assets. Formerly a resident of Palmer, Rep. Smola now resides in the Town of Warren with his new wife and stepchildren.
