Zac Broomfield, Director of Camp Frank A. Day in East Brookfield discussed their initiative at a recent Rotary meeting. Camp Frank A. Day is owned and managed by the West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA. The Camp is a co-ed residential camp which serves 7-16 year olds and operates for seven weeks in July and August typically for multiple 2-week sessions. They offer a wide variety of elective classes, including athletics, enrichment, and waterfront activities. They also have a Leader in Training program for participants age 16. While the Camp has primarily served youngsters from the greater Newton area, it has been opening the enrollment in recent years to youth from East Brookfield and surrounding towns. While many area youth benefit from a ‘day camp’, few experience the extra benefits, memories and adventures of a ‘residential camp’ and one so close to home. Serving the needs of youth of all ages is an important focus of Sturbridge Rotary. To help in the Camp’s effort Sturbridge Rotary donated funds to help defray the costs for local youth to attend this residential Camp.
