TOWN OF STURBRIDGE RALLIES TO SUPPORT

NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS

In the spirit of giving thanks, a grass roots effort has begun in order to support our neighbors in New
York and New Jersey – by donating much needed items. Town administrators, along with private
citizens and local business, have created a central hurricane relief effort for area residents and
businesses.

On Thursday, November 15th from noon until 8:00pm, and Saturday, November 17th from 8:00am until
noon, volunteers will be collecting items for immediate transport to those in need along the New York
and New Jersey coastlines.

Collections will be centralized at the Sturbridge Public Safety Complex at 346 Main Street.
Additionally, many local businesses will provide drop off boxes throughout the week leading up to
centralized pick up. Those businesses include but are not limited to: Sturbridge Coffee House, Sims
Premier Fitness, and the Sturbridge Visitor Center/Chamber of Central Mass South.

Items being collected include, but are not limited to, unused/unopened: baby supplies (baby food,
diapers, and wipes); clean up items (garbage bags, rubber boots and gloves, work gloves, masks, and
shovels); batteries and flashlights; paper goods (paper plates, plastic utensils, and paper towels);
cleaning supplies and cleaning products; non‐perishable food in cans and boxes – no glass; new
(unopened) blankets; gas cards for transportation expense; and pet food.

All collections will be distributed to those areas hit the hardest ‐‐ via onsite fire departments and
municipal centers.

We are also seeking to secure back-up trucking and supplies from Chamber members willing, that may lower/eliminate expenses for this effort.  If you have a trucking route that takes you to the affected areas and you would be willing to help transport supplies, please contact Trisha at the number below! Thank you!

If you are interested in making a cash donation, please contact the Red Cross at 800‐RED CROSS or
www.redcross.org/hurricane_relief.

Please show your support of this important effort and donate items for our neighbors in need.
