Opacum Land Trust brings author Stephen Long to Sturbridge to share his new book: Thirty-Eight: The Hurricane That Transformed New England
September 21, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00pm; Dinner and Program at the Publick House
September 21st is the anniversary of the great 1938 hurricane that devastated our region, flooding the town of Southbridge and flattening many of our woodlands. Opacum Land Trust is proud to host Stephen Long, author, blogger and writer on the woodlands of New England.
From Stephens book: “In 1938, not a single living person in New England had ever experienced a hurricane. The previous one had been so long before that people in the Northeast believed that hurricanes only happened down south. Florida, Texas, maybe North Carolina. Not Massachusetts. Then, without warning, the most destructive weather event to ever hit the Northeast blasted its way through all the way to Quebec.”
6:00 Cocktails and Book Signing; 7:15 Dinner
