Quaboag Valley Community Development Corporation (QVCDC) was recently awarded $157,500 in grant funding to provide businesses in Hampden, Hampshire and Worcester Counties with free access to its Business Software Training Programs.
Funding for the program is provided through the Regional Training Capacity Pilot of the Workforce Training Fund from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, and is administered by Commonwealth Corporation. QVCDC, a nonprofit organization based in Ware, provides business training and technical assistance to small businesses in the region.
With the assistance of the Quaboag Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Central Mass South, QVCDC identified many businesses needing training but unable to send employees to classes because of training expense, travel time and cost, inconvenient training schedules, and extensive paperwork requirements.
QVCDC Executive Director, Sheila Cuddy, said "We are excited to offer this training opportunity to help businesses improve their workers' efficiency on the job at little cost and time away from work. Training slots are limited, so we urge prompt action by interested employers!"
With the new grant, QVCDC will offer computer skills training at 5 locations throughout the region as well as the possibility of on-site training at the employer's location. Training will be offered in MS Word 2013, Excel 2013, Access 2013, Windows 8.1, Computer Essentials (Windows 7 and 8.1) and Quickbooks 2014. Classes will be offered at no cost to eligible employers who pay into state unemployment, are current with their payroll taxes and will pay trainees their regular wages during training. Employers that have used Workforce Training Fund grants in the past may also be eligible for the pilot program. For more information contact Gail Farnsworth French at GailFF@qvcdc.com.
