FEMA MAY REIMBURSE SHORT-TERM LODGING EXPENSES

FEMA PRESS RELEASE

FEMA MAY REIMBURSE SHORT-TERM LODGING EXPENSES

WESTFIELD, MA. – Residents of Hampden and Worcester Counties who stayed at hotels, motels or other short-term lodging at their own expense because their homes were damaged in the June 1 severe storms and tornadoes may be eligible for reimbursement of those expenses.

Survivors must have had damage to their homes or loss of utilities on or after the June 1 incident that forced them to relocate.

They must register with FEMA to determine if they are eligible for lodging reimbursement. They must provide verifiable receipts showing their name, the name of the lodging facility, dates of occupancy and the amount incurred. If they are insured, FEMA will need to see their insurance denial or settlement in order to ensure there is no duplication of benefits.

There are several ways to register with FEMA:

  • By phone, call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. EDT. Assistance is available

in many languages. Those who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability may use

TTY 1-800-462-7585;

Survivors can send FEMA any documents about their request for disaster assistance.  The information should be mailed to: National Processing Service Center, PO Box 10055, Hyattsville, MD 20782

or faxed to 1-800-827-8112.

Residents can also visit a Disaster Recovery Center, which connects people with state and federal specialists to help survivors start their recoveries.  Disaster Recovery Centers can submit the insurance documentation for applicants.
