Moving to the Area

If you’re considering moving to or locating your business in our region – congratulations! The Chamber is happy to help answer any questions or navigate the process. You’ll find many affordable options for real estate, both residential and commercial. Housing in Central Massachusetts is highly desirable for its below state-average purchase prices, lower residential tax rates, access to highway networks and multiple metropolitan areas, while offering a rural sensibility, low crime rates and a lush, beautiful landscape.

The state of Massachusetts excels in K-12 education, and enjoys a long tradition of outstanding higher education and professional development opportunities. Residents in our area have a wide variety of education options to choose from, including public schools with robust academic, athletic and artistic programs, private schools from pre-school through secondary education, and several institutions of higher learning in the immediate area.

Our students, particularly those in high school, have the ability to exercise school choice, enabling them to take advantage of various academic, technical and trades specialties offered by some of our fine facilities. Adult learners benefit from several colleges in our immediate area from which associates, bachelors and graduate degrees can be attained at remarkably affordable rates. And employers have access to these institutions for customized, professional employee development at tremendous values.

Every aspect of high quality health care, professions and services are available in the immediate area. Harrington Hospital leads the way with a brand new, state-of-the-art cancer treatment center and a full service women’s health center among its offerings. We are also fortunate to have several social service agencies and private enterprises in the region offering a host of services for people with disabilities, job training and development, and individual and family support services.

Roughly 75% of our businesses are small professional or service enterprises, many offering innovative services, and all deeply committed to the communities in which they thrive. Whether seeking the services of professions ranging from law to real estate to accounting, needing the healing and nurturing skills of traditional medicine, biosynchronistic or chiropractic services, or alternative techniques to optimal body and mind well-being, it is all available in the Central Mass South region. Our story would be incomplete without mention of our alluring arts and leisure traditions. The region is home to countless artists and writers who demonstrate their skills at the local Arts Center, juried shows, local festivals and various backroad studio tours.

There are both professional and community theater companies with a variety of shows year-round. Being rural New England, we offer a variety of outdoor fairs and festivals throughout the four seasons.

In addition to all of these is a full range of four season recreational activities including swimming, hiking, biking, boating, (ice) fishing, hunting, skating, snowmobiling and skiing. Finally, our close proximity to Boston, New York City, Worcester, Providence and Hartford means we truly want for nothing, as it is all right here within our own back yards.
