Sturbridge Lions All American River Race
The Sturbridge Lions All American River Race is an annual event enjoyed by canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts and spectators alike. This is a timed race of over six miles, starting one craft each minute. The first craft leaves Turners Field at 11:01AM and heads for the finish line at Westville Dam Recreational Area in Southbridge. With both the Sturbridge and Charlton Emergency Rescue Teams using our race as a training event, and manning the route with spotters from the Radio Club, we make this the safest race possible. Over 100 craft and 180 participants competed in this years event and medalions are given to the first three finishers in each class. The Westville Dam Recreational Area features food and entertainment as well as strategic viewing spots to see the craft negotiate the rapids area. A good time is had by all!
The Sturbridge Lions Club is giving away a brand new Old Town Loon Kayak at their Annual River Race this year! The Sturbridge Lions will also hold a raffle and that winner will also receive a brand new Loon Kayak, life jacket and paddle included, which will be on site. Tickets are available for the raffle at a donation of $5.00 each.
