Southbridge Bicentennial Grand Parade
May 14, 2016, Registration at 10am for parade participants. Stay tuned or check the website (www.southbridge200.org) for more details and times!
Be amazed and entertained as our Grand Parade winds its way through the heart of our town. This extravaganza will begin with the Mummers from Philadelphia reprising their 1966 appearance in our Sesquicentennial Parade and conclude with the fan favorite Shriners who are almost a parade in themselves. In between these two anchors you will be treated to a Parade through Southbridge History. From the earliest beginnings with the Nipmucks before the incorporation of the town follow the development of the town of Southbridge to the present day. In chronological progression watch as we present an unprecedented variety of re-enactment groups, vintage vehicles, bands and famous Southbridgians. Local companies and organizations are being asked to enter floats that showcase the history and role that they have played making Southbridge the diverse town that it is. It is our desire to include all and to leave spectators in awe and with a better understanding and appreciation of Southbridge's history. Throw in a few dignitaries and special surprises and this will be the parade that you will not forget.
If your organization is interested in entering a float in the parade then download the appropriate PDF form and submit it to the Bicentennial Committee.
A copy of the parade rules is available as a PDF file also.
The fun does not end with a parade on this day. McMahon Field (Corner of Cole Ave. and Dresser St.) will be the site for a festival that celebrates Southbridge's bicentennial. (Due to the bicentennial celebrations this year, the Downtown Partnership will not be hosting a Southbridge Fest.) The festival will run until 6:00PM, but don't forget the parade is also going to be running with its start time of 10:00 AM. The parade is expected to be about three hours long.
