On Thursday, December 15, 2011 from 6:30 PM-7:30 PM,, author and musician Sarah Jo Burke will present a program at Jacob Edwards Library, 236 Main Street, Southbridge, MA. All welcome!
The story of the nationally-recognized Burke Family Singers is recounted in the book DONT THINK IT HASNT BEEN FUN by sibling Sara Jo. Their father, Walter Vincent Burke, and mother, the former Miss Anne Devine, produced 10 siblings (five brothers, five sisters) in 13 years, managing to create a perfect chorus of voices ready to entertain any audience.
They drove across the United States and Canada in two station wagons and for the better part of the 1960s were known as “America’s First Family of Song.” This Irish-Catholic Family from Rhode Island was once hailed as America’s answer to the Austrian Von Trapp family.
Sarah Jo Burke, the youngest of the five daughters, has written a book that celebrates American values in the best sense and, if nothing else, proves that the family that sings together stays together. Don't Think It Hasn't Been Fun has received critical acclaim and is available for borrowing from the library.
Join us to hear from the author about growing up in this musical American family. This is a free program. All welcome! Light refreshments provided by Friends of the Jacob Edwards Library.
