The opening of exhibit, By the Fireside: Decorating New England Parlor Hearths, 1790-1840, will be marked by a full weekend of events.
In addition to the opening of the exhibit in the Visitor Center Gallery, antiques enthusiasts can participate in the following events:
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10
Join experts and scholars for a day of presentations and demonstrations related to the decoration and construction of early American hearths. Tour the exhibit and the Village's hearths. Speakers include Bill Hosley, independent scholar; Richard Irons, master historical mason; Gerald W.R. Ward, curator at the MFA, Boston; and Jan Whitlock, textile historian, antique textile dealer, and author. Learn more or register.

Join Old Sturbridge Village and Skinner, Inc.'s Executive Vice President and Director of the American Furniture and Decorative Arts Department Stephen Fletcher for a closer look at your antiques. Twenty participants will bring antiques to be examined and evaluated by Mr. Fletcher. Several pieces from the Old Sturbridge Village collection will also be included.
